Inquiries and SubmissionsGovernment inquiries and reviews are part of the political process. They are a chance to say what you think when government is at its most receptive. Submissions are an effective way to influence government policy. The government added Asperger's syndrome to its "list of recognised disabilities", that is the disabilities that automatically qualify for Carer Allowance. The submissions to that review produced this result. Short and simple submissions from individuals often have a big impact. It is best to tell your own story and say what you think. You can just write a letter to an inquiry ... there is no need to write a formal submission or adopt a particular style. You can get the "term of reference" from the Inquiry website. Then if you have something to say, write a submission and send it to the Inquiry. These can be useful sources of ideas and material for submissions to current inquiries. Or you may like to read through them to get an idea of what A4 is about. Inquiries and reviews take every submission they receive seriously. You can tell the government about problems, challenges and inequities people with ASD experience. You can describe family or carer issues. You can suggest solutions. They never criticise submissions or the people who write them. CSTDA InquiryThe Senate Community Affairs Committee is Inquiring into the Commonwealth State/Territories Disability Agreement (CSTDA). This is an agreement between the Commonwealth Government and the state and territories to fund disability services and support.
